Narendra Damodardas Modi is an Indian politician working as the 14th and present Prime Minister of India since 2014. He remained the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi.


Childhood


Narendra Modi was born on 17 September 1950 in Vadnagar, a small village located in the Mahesana district of North Gujarat. The full name of 'Narendra Modi' is Narendra Damodardas Modi.  His father's name was Damodardas Moolchand Modi and his mother's name was Hiraben Modi. He was born in a middle-class family. 


Narendra Modi's father used to sell tea to support his family. Seeing the poor status of his family, Narendra Modi also started selling tea at the Vadnagar railway station. with his father and brothers. Despite facing many hardships and many struggles in childhood, Modi never got disappointed and continued his duty as a great man with his strong intentions and positive attitude. This is the reason why today he is considered among the most powerful personalities in the world. 

Born in an economically backward Modh-Ghanchi-Teli (oil-presser) community, Narendra Modi is the third son of his parents. At the age of 13, he was engaged to Jasoda Ben and married when he was only 17 years old. Narendra Modi had graduated from high school at the same time, so he denied his marriage. After a few years, he left his home to pursue a saintly life and roamed in different parts of India to gain knowledge. 



Education


Since childhood, Narendra is a personality of intelligence and extraordinary talent. He has had a great interest in reading and writing since childhood. He considers Swami Vivekananda as his ideal and follows the path given by him. Narendra had the virtue of patriotism from his childhood and so he wanted to study in the Army School and join the Indian Army, for which he tried a lot, but due to the poor status of his family, his dream remained just a dream. In 1978, Narendra Modigraduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Delhi University. Five years later, in 1983, he then completed his MA in Political Science from Gujarat University in Ahmedabad as an external distance learning student.

Narendra Modi's Political journey



After finishing his university studies, Narendra Modi joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a promoter. He started his journey in politics in 1958 from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS),  a Hindu nationalist volunteer organization, an organization focusing on the social and cultural development of India, and imbibed the spirit of selflessness, social responsibility, dedication, and nationalism. He served the flood victims of Gujarat in 1967. During his Sangh work, Narendra Modi has played important roles many times. In 1971 he became a full-time worker for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In 1975-1977, RSS along with 23 other bodies, was banned when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared an emergency across the country. She drew a comparison between Nazis and RSS. Narendra Modi strongly opposed the Emergency in the country then. At that time, Narendra Modi traveled in a disguised way to evade imprisonment. 


For the first time after joining BJP, Modi played his active participation in speeding up BJP's campaign in the Corporation elections held in Ahmedabad, in which BJP won. During this time Modi used his efficient strategy to promote the privatization of small government, industries, etc. In 1987, Narendra Modi entered the mainstream of politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Within a year, he was appointed General Secretary of the Gujarat assembly of BJP. After this, in the year 1988, the party, realizing the skill power of Modi, appointed him for the post of Organizing Secretary of the Gujarat Branch. He pioneered the daunting task of activating party workers in the true sense, due to which the party started getting political benefits. In the year 1990, Narendra Modi with his political skills he played an active role in the administration of  LK Advani's Ayodhya Rath Yatra and formed a coalition government. From here, he drew the attention of the party. 

During this time the BJP had realized the astonishing potential of Modi. After this, during the year 1991-1992, Narendra Modi had made his significant contribution in strengthening the position of the party when senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi's Ekta Yatra held out. after which Modi continued to gain attention at the party. In the 1995  Gujarat Legislative Assembly election, Bharatiya Janata Party won 121 seats and came to power.

During this time, due to differences between Shankar Singh Vaghela and Modi, Shankar Lal Vaghela resigned from the party, after which Keshubhai Patel was appointed the Chief Minister of Gujarat, while Narendra Modi as National Secretary to handle party activities in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana and moved to New Delhi. In 1998, Modi was elected as the General Secretary of the party. He took his responsibility in a very good way, during this time he worked to strengthen the party organization in many different states.

In 2001, when Keshubhai Patel was in charge of the Chief Minister of Gujarat, his health started deteriorating, which affected the elections in the state. At the same time, due to the weak conduct of the party in this election, BJP lost many assembly seats in the state. After which, to strengthen the BJP's position in Gujarat, senior party leaders selected a new and strong candidate for the Chief Minister's post. Narendra Modi was assigned the responsibility of the Chief Minister of Gujarat. However, due to lack of political experience, senior BJP leaders like LK Advani and late Atal Bihari Vajpayee considered him for the post of Deputy Chief Minister but Modi refused to become the Deputy Chief Minister, stating that if he takes over the responsibility of Gujarat, he will take it fully not this way. On 7 October 2001, Narendra Modi was appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. 

A massive earthquake that measured 6.9 on the Richter scale, occurred in Gujarat at 08:46 local time on 26 January 2001 - India's Republic Day holiday. At that time Gujarat was going through the adverse effects of many other natural disasters including devastating earthquakes in January 2001. He envisaged a five-point strategy- Panchamrit plan for the all-round development of Gujarat by focusing on the social sector in a bearing suitable for all-around socio-economic development.

Modi made modern development in Gujarat and managed to win the trust of the people. In 2002, his name was affixed to the Godhra Kand of Gujarat 2002 for inciting communal riots in Gujarat. After which he had to resign from the post of CM of Gujarat due to pressure from opposition parties and Congress. Due to which his first term as CM of Gujarat was only for a few days. At that time, the investigation committee threw all the charges against Modi and stated them baseless and he was given a green signal by the court in this case. Again, Narendra Modi held command of the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Narendra Modi with his administrative foresight, clear vision, and integrity of character, won a grand victory in the general elections of December 2002. In the 2007 elections too, Bharatiya Janata Party again got an overwhelming majority under Modi's leadership. During this tenure, Narendra Modi also changed the picture of Gujarat and made all efforts to make Gujarat a dream state. He did much progressive attempts to facilitate the people of Gujarat. With the Sardar Sarovar Dam project, he fulfilled his vision to provide electricity to all villages of Gujarat, and with The Statue of Unity, he gave a new direction to Gujarat tourism. He also inaugurated the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in which Gujarat emerged as a Global Investment Destination and proved its role as the Growth Engine of the Indian Economy. He became the first Chief Minister to serve as CM of Gujarat for the longest period. Bharatiya Janata Party again won an overwhelming majority in the 2012 State Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) elections under Modi's leadership and Narendra Modi vowed in as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the fourth consecutive time.



Given his fame and practice, the Bharatiya Janata Party declared Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2014 General Election. After being declared the Prime Ministerial candidate by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Narendra Modi traveled all over India. Under his leadership, the Bharatiya Janata Party also achieved unprecedented success in the 2014 elections. Modi wave hailed across the country, Modi's thoughts and strategies influenced the people so much that people gained him to victory with a huge vote. In the 2014 general elections, BJP registered a historic victory by securing 282 seats out of 534 seats. In this way, Narendra Modi became a new face as the Prime Minister of India. Narendra Modi vowed in as the 15th Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014 and is also presented as the Prime of India since 2014.

Narendra Modi's image is thought to be a strict administrator and a strict disciplinarian, but at the same time, he also has an immense softness and depth in himself. He has a keen interest in science and technology. He is a pragmatic, successful politician, a poet as well as a visionary leader. There is a lot of optimism in him. He has changed the definition of the politics of India in just a few years of his tenure. The opposition has crumbled before him like cards. He is also proved victorious in recognizing India globally. That's why he is acclaimed as a global leader and people see a hero in him. Modi is the only politician who is respected even overseas. He is a leader who has touched the sky high from the ground. Every step Modi takes is to bring prosperity to the life of poor people. He not only strengthened the economy of the country but also made commendable efforts to remove poverty, unemployment, and corruption from the country. He launched all the schemes keeping in mind the welfare of women, children, aged, businessmen, farmers, youth, etc. Whether it is the Ujjwala scheme of the Central Government, or Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao, or Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, all these schemes aim to improve the standard of living of women and girls in rural areas. 


He started the Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan for awareness to people about the importance of cleanliness. He made a series of international travels to strengthen India's relations with other countries and also to encourage foreign businesses to invest in India. He made people aware of programs like Make in India and Digital India. Through his positive thinking and continuous hard work, he won many hearts and became a favorite Prime Minister of the people of India which was seen in the election of 2019. In the 2019 general elections, Modi became the Prime minister of India for the second time by recording a massive victory. By winning 353 seats out of 542 seats, he trounced the 70-year-old Congress Party and created a history in the 2019 elections with his hard work and constantly working for the development of the people and the country.


Narendra Modi participated in the BRICS, SAARC, United Nations, and G20 summits where he presented India as a strong nation. After this, Modi's visionary and generous views were also highly appreciated by world leaders. He implemented demonetization in the country to end corruption. He enforced the GST tax by incorporating all the different taxes levied in the country. Narendra Modi gave a befitting reply to Pakistan by carrying out a surgical strike with a Uri attack and an airstrike after the Pulwama attack. Narendra Modi started celebrating the International Day of Yoga on 21 June every year. International Yoga Day was celebrated for the first time on 21 June 2015. He inaugurated  The National War Memorial was built to honor the Armed Forces in New Delhi. He has a visionary plan to bring bullet trains to India by the years 2022 and 2023. Not only this, when the whole world is fighting pandemics, WHO praises PM Modi's efforts to contain Coronavirus. He addressed the countrymen that the fight against corona is no less than war. He urged people to donate and encourage others to contribute to the PM-CARES fund. Modi applied a nationwide lockdown in four stages from March to May end. His efforts acclaimed India and set an example in the world to combat corona.

Certainly, in the politics of India, Modi with his dynamic leadership is in the heart of India. Blessed this nation is to have such leaders.
